Okay, I'll say it - skincare today is a full-blown circus 🤡
We've all been there - scrolling through an ad that swears this one serum will "repair your barrier", smoothen your soul, and solve world peace. Next thing you know, you've added 8 products to your cart, and 3 additional steps into your every-growing skincare routine, you're broke, tired, and probably breaking out.
Overconsumption is real. And guess what? It's not just bad for our wallets and skins - its also terrible for our plant!
So let's slow down. Breathe. And go back to our roots - literally.
Skip to What You Actually Came For:
Ancient Glow Game - India's OG skin rituals and why they still matter in 2025.
Shop Smart, Not just Pretty - the actual ingredients that must be present in your product

One Final Rant (and a hug) - a reality check from me to you.
Brand Folks, Read This - why this blog is a sneak peak into how I think.
India's Skin Secrets are Already Legendary
Before serums came in tinted glass bottles, our grandmothers were using multani mitti, besan, alum stone, curry leaves, rice etc. - all without a single #sponsored.
India's history with skincare is rich, natural, and science-backed (even before we started calling it "actives"). Whether it's sandalwood for calming sandalwood for calming inflammation or turmeric for glowing skin, we've always had the good stuff - straight from the kitchen!
And let's be real - no one glows harder than our grandmothers who have never bought 2000 worth serum in her life.
Ingredients That Actually Work (And What % To Look For)
Whether you're shopping on Myntra, Nykaa, or your neighborhood pharmacy, forget the pretty packaging. Look at the ingredients list instead.
Here's your cheat sheet ~ (kindly do a patch test before using them)
Skin Concern | Key Ingredient | % To Look For |
Acne/Breakouts | Salicylic Acid | 1-2% (great for oily skin, unclogs pores) |
Pigmentation/Dark Spots | Niacinamide | 5% (brightens, evens tone) |
Dull Skin | Vitamin C | 10-15% (look for L-ascorbic acid or SAP/MAP for sensitive skin) |
Dryness/Barrier Repair | Ceramides + Hyaluronic Acid | Ceramides in top 5 ingredients, HA in <2% |
Fine Lines | Retinol | 0.3-1% (start low, go slow) |
Redness/Sensitivity | Centella Asiatica/Madecassoide | Should be high up on the list if this is the main claim |
Sun Protection | Zinc Oxide or Tinosorb/Mexoryl | SPF 30++ PA+++ (broad spectrum) |
🧠Bonus Tip - If the ingredient is named in the front label, make sure it isn't hiding at the bottom of the list in 0.000001% just for marketing :)
3 Desi Remedies That Still Slay

They are holy-grail level and budget friendly -
Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth) Face Pack -
Good for: Oily skin, acne-prone skin, dullness.
You'll need -
1tbsp Multani Mitti
1-2 tsp rose water
A few drops of tea-tree oil (optional - helps fight acne)
Raw honey if you have combination skin
Mix, apply, leave for 10-15 mins, rinse & pat-dry.
🧠 Pro tip: Don't leave the pack on for too long, it dries up quickly!
Alum Stone Toner (Fitkari) -
Good for: razor bumps, open pores, post shaving calming
You'll need -
1 small piece of alum
Clean or rose water
Wet the stone, rub it gently on clean skin, let it sit for 2-3 mins, rinse off
🧠 Pro tip: Avoid daily use if your skin is very dry or reactive. Twice a week is enough!
Besan (gram flour) + Haldi (turmeric) Glow Mask -
Good for: Brightening, mild exfoliation, softening skin
You'll need -
1 tbsp besan
1 pinch haldi
1-2 tsp milk or curd
Mix, apply, leave on for 10-15 mins, scrub & rinse.
🧠 Pro tip: works on arms and legs before your wedding for a healthy glow!
Final Thoughts (and a Tiny Rant)
Its 2025. We need intentional skincare, not impulsive skincare.
Let's buy better, not just more. Let's listen to our skin, not just ads. And maybe.. let's call our grandmothers and ask them for their DIY masks before we spend 5k on a brand new "skin barrier healing" potion.
Your skin is not a trend.
Its tradition, biology and a whole lot of love💗
Brand Folks, This Is For You
Let's step out of skincare mode and talk brand.
If you're reading this as someone who works at a beauty or lifestyle brand - hi, I see you 👀
This blog isn't just a passion project. It's how I think and speak to consumers - with empathy, insight, and a little bit of fun.
I come from a marketing background, have retail campaign experience, and know what it means to convert attention into action.
But more importantly? I care about the why behind every product, and how it fits into people's lives.
Whether its breaking down ingredients myths, helping someone make smarter buying decisions, or tying tradition to trend - I'm here for it. Because the beauty world doesn't need more noise. It needs clarity, community, and real conversation.
If that's the kind of storytelling your brand believes in too - let's talk!
